A collection of menstrual superstitions.I myself don’t think the one about hair not holding a curl is all that much of a superstition. If I try and curl my hair when I’m on my period or right before it,or even try and dye it,it doesn’t hold.I’m assuming it has something to do with hormones or just the fact PMS and the like make your hair and skin more greasy.
And I’m pretty sure when allot of us are on our period we get so grumpy we could look at a swarm of bees and kill them.

I’m trying to kick myself in the pants and work on my Uglyshyla.com site a bit.For as egotistical as I’m sure I come off sometimes I have to kick myself in the pants to work on my personal site.Because I’m just not that excited to stare at myself for hours on end and type in drivel about myself.I have no prob running my mouth about my opinions on things, but I really don’t like talking about myself, cause I just don’t find myself all that damn interesting.
God where does all the time go,It seems like I’m always spreading myself thin but I guess I do it so much I don’t get anything done one at a time.Even when I log on to the computer I see messages and e-mail from friends I really adore the hell out of which say a few years ago I spend hours just shooting the bull with so to speak, and I have to leave the messages in my in box and almost make a appointment with myself to at least get the time to reply back to them.I think I’m to blame for not having much of any off time because I always find myself something to do.When you work for yourself you almost have to be that way or you don’t get to have luxuries like food money for yourself.
I realized today just how much I make notes on things. Not just notes but notebooks, scrapbooks, diagrams, color and fabric swatches for doll work and fashion stuff ect.Just the scrap/note books I have and continue to keep notes in is sort of crazy.
I have one beside my bed that I sketch dream imagery in,
5 in the Altar room,
One for art sketches.
One for just art type reference of photos I take out of anything I come across of stuff I need for reference.
One for fashion photo references and sketches.
One to keep all of the loose sketches, small paintings doodles in for my mother, because she likes keeping things I make, even doodles.I tell her I know it’s just because if I die before her and my art becomes really collectable she will sell them one by one.LOL
One a list of rituals and occult stuff I need to keep track of.
That is just the note/scrap book things. This is NOT counting the likely hundreds of notes or doodles scattered about the house, car, purse. And it’s not like to do list,or list of things to shop for, these are what I call crazy people notes,of dream imagery, art work doodles, interesting bible quotes, torn out photos of Jesus or things like say a Frog.
I have always just assumed it was like a “crazy people thing” to keep so many notes about things, allot of totally mental people just keep note books to obsessive over things in,or huge volumes of crazy people doodles.
I realized why I do this now,I do it because I know there is a likelihood I will become totally insane one day,and I will lose my mind. The notes are there to keep things,so others can see what I have lost.

After making the maxi pad banner for my site,I realized what a obsession I have with menstruation.I go so far as to collect unusual things having to do with menstruation and also books on the subject.
I think I realized why I have such a fascination with it.It’s sort of like when you see something really horrible and you just feel the need to make somebody else look at it.We all have that inborn need that when we see, hear or even smell something utterly repulsive that we have to make somebody else share in it.
I’m more or less a tomboy,so the fact that my body is female makes me slightly horrified in a way.
For those of you who are male, trust me there is NOTHING more socking and upsetting to wake up one day and see that you are bleeding from your reproductive organs, and not only are you bleeding from “down there” you are also hurting and just a emotional wreck even if bleeding in your pants wasn’t upsetting enough.
Think of the shock and awe you had when you sported your first chest hair, that in itself is frightening but waking up one day to feel like your pelvis was run over by a car,and finding your body is doing something it usually only does if you are dying is pretty damn scary.
After that you realize that you will feel that way once a month till you are likely about 50 or 60 years old.Even as a adult it’s like knowing once a month you will be hit by a slow moving car.
Women have been having periods since the first women lived on Earth.Yet it’s such a upsetting thing to deal with in a way that even thousand of years later we are still *both male and female* freaked out by it.
The human brain is just hardwired to freak out if you see any part of your body bleeding, and even if you happen to be female and it’s supposed to do that it still I think sends a little twinge of shock to your brain.
It’s just something you are programmed to be upset by,even if you are a girl that is brought up with a mom that is open about these things and warns you ahead of time what to expect.Look at girls that are even raised by say Wiccan/Hippy type parents that want to make their first periods about a celebration of becoming a woman, the young girl will STILL normally think OMG what is happening,I’m hurting the bleeding “down there”.They usually are also still mortified that their parents want to call attention to that.
So in short having a period for me is like seeing a dead body in the woods or something,if I have to be scared for life by seeing it,so do all of y’all.

I had a great time at Fear Fest in Dallas,as always my mother came with me to work the booth AKA dig around for stuff to buy and check out at the event while I yell at her to come help me run the booth.LOL.The Bugbee’s of a Year At The Wheel *Shane and Amy* came and shared my booth with me and stayed with us,in our no ice box having, crappy A/C system overpriced hotel. They dog Cheyenne and Myrtle the turtle also stayed in the room with us.At one point I thought Myrtle was dead till I realized she sleeps with her head under water.LOL.We even took Myrtle down to the vending area and were letting her run around on the table with the dolls and books.
Unfortunately they vendors weren’t linked on the Fear Fest website or even in the event program *which was kind of crappy because EVERY other event I have ever done does that as just a courtesy*,so I didn’t know ahead of time some of my friends I know from vending different events would be there hocking their stuff too like Kristoff of Horror Merch and Drink With The Living Dead,I ran into some of my vending buddies when me and Amy when to look for Shane because we thought he may have roamed off and tried to fist fight somebody.HAHA
All weekend we were lucky enough to have a booth next to The Hare Krishna Zombie from Dawn Of The Dead he was so awesome and nice and what is cooler then a guy who played a Hare Krishna Zombie in Dawn of the Dead???NOTHING that’s what!He also hung out with us for most of the convention,Satan bless him for putting up with our crazy antics.
I also saw some of the Dallas peeps I know like Dye Decay *who has a bun in the oven! I kept patting her belly and then I told her “Oh God I hope the baby isn’t born with a tail now because of me touching it!”LOL
Jennifer and her friend Rosanna came by the booth to visit and we talked about Anaconda skins,ok that sounds dirty but we were talking about REAL anaconda’s so get those damn dirty thoughts out of y’all heads.
Mr Bang also came and hung out with us for most of the weekend,he’s a really sweet fellow. He came by my booth to say HI and to chat so I invited him behind the booth because there is where folks get in on all the bitchy fun we all have being mean to people we don’t like at events,I also Kristoff of Horror Merch come behind the booth to get filled in on the daily gossip. For some reason behind the booth is like the VIP area and where much gossip and mischief is spread.
A couple of times during the event Shane Bugbee ran up and confronted a couple of people he doesn’t like with his camera in tow and filming. That was pretty funny seeing him just run up to folks like Geraldo.LOL
Off duty at the event we all hung out with my friend Satat who is one of the smartest people I have met in a longggg time. She also showed me some of her art in person. Her work is just amazing and I’m trying to kick her in the pants to get it out there more. Her doodles are allot better the even the fine art stuff you see in most alt galleries. She’s really good.
On the last day of the event I twisted Amy Bugbee’s arm into doing a catfight photoshoot with me and Mike Wilshin was nice enough to do the shoot of us on short notice.Amy had never done any alt modeling before, and she’s a lovely gal so I talked her into it.I think she was wary of anything I was touting as a good idea at first.LOL.But once she got to pretend to claw my eyes out and choke me I think she had fun.HAH
All in all I had allot of fun,I always have a good time when I go to Dallas,it’s one of the few places I look forward to visiting.I got to hang out with some old friends and also make new friends and I’m sure enemies,so everybody go check out the folks I have linked in my post and add them because they are all awesome folks.

Over the weekend the Bugbee’s made a stop in my neck of the woods because they are doing a documentary A Year At The Wheel and wanted to talk to me a bit on cam for it.
We *Mum and I* all met up at our uber glamours meeting place of a Burger King parking lot to plan on where to go from there, they even have their pet dog Cheyenne and Myrtle the Turtle.
From the very start the Bugbee’s were super nice and gracious folks, even the turtle and dog are nice.LOL
We were going to take them out to a Cajun restaurant but it didn’t open till 5pm,so we figured we’d do the interview first and get that out of the way then eat.We went to a local cemetery that is small but has a few cool graves to film there,it’s was a nice spot also because that way the doggy and turtle could stretch their legs some more after being on the road for hours. After finding a shaded spot to put my pasty self so I wouldn’t white out the cam we did the interview, with Shane asking me questions about what I think of the state of the nation and about art ect.I’m sure I was wonderfully twitchy and shifty eyed for him, I get freaked out if I’m filmed for something like a documentary because of it always being in the back of my mind to not look into the cam, which is mainly only for fiction acting, not real life stuff like a documentary. But I still get all shifty eyed because #1 I’m naturally shifty eyed, cause I’m naturally a criminal.LOL.And 2 because of thinking about should I look in the cam, which you really want to do during things like say a news interview or a documentary because unlike fiction acting the person behind the cam is asking you questions, and that makes you naturally want to look them in the eye when they do that.
Other then my natural shifty-eyedness I think it went well.
While me and Shane did the interview,Amy,the doggy, turtle and my mom hung out.
The Bugbee’s were headed to Austin after hanging out with me and Mum so they were thinking about skipping dinner and just heading straight out, which I couldn’t let them go away without feeding them because then I’d have my southern Louisiana residency revoked.LOL
Since the Cajun restaurant still wasn’t open, and we figured they were sick of Cajun food from being in NOLA for like 3 weeks we took them out for Mexican food.
We had a great time just hanging out and chowing down at the restaurant. We talked about everything from 20 foot Jesus,to serial killers.
The Bugbee’s are such awesome and down to earth folks.
If you have never heard of them you can find out a little bit of info on their bio here, needless to say they have lead a very interesting life so far.
What they are trying to do with their Year At The Wheel project is a wonderful and important thing, they are trying to document reality and wanting to know just what is the American Dream if most people are only one paycheck from losing everything? And if this is the downfall of man, the crumbling of our society or the start of a brave new world - why not document it for future generations to learn from.
They are trying to actually create important art,not the drivel bullshit that seems to pass for “art” and “journalism” these days.
They are down to earth arts folk just like myself, and they need support in what they are doing, from sponsorship to just spreading the word and getting involved with their project. You can even help out by getting them to do things from wearing your company or band t-shirts on camera for $50,buying them dinner or just helping out for free by spreading the word about their project. You can find info on how to help here http://ayearatthewheel.com/?page_id=7.
So please check out their website http://ayearatthewheel.com/ and myspace and support their project by at least adding them to your myspace and giving them words of encouragement!
This weekend March 7-9th they will be hanging out at my booth at Tx Fear Fest in Dallas,TX,so if you come by my booth make sure to tell them HI :).

The Louisiana Digital Folklore Archive houses all collections of the Center for Louisiana Studies. Included are the Archives of Cajun and Creole Folklore (the largest), which has evolved to become the premier oral history and recorded music collection in Southwest Louisiana. Originating in 1974, it is the most comprehensive repository of recorded and transcribed materials on French in Louisiana, the Upper Mississippi River Valley, French Canada, the West Indies, and Africa. The Archive represents the collection and preservation activities of several generations of folklorists, ethnomusicologists, linguists, and other cultural resource management professionals.
I think it’s wonderful what they are doing to help preserve our Cajun and Creole culture,so please check them out and add them.If you have never heard our native Cajun and Creole music they have some on there.Normally when people think of Louisiana culture they think of New Orleans culture, when in fact that is just one aspect of Louisiana culture, and the culture of my area is totally different from the NOLA type culture, and I think it’s wonderful somebody is doing something to show people that culture, when it’s sadly slowly dying off.Hardly anymore under the age of 70 speaks French anymore and allot of the younger generation don’t know much about Cajun and Creole history.
